Tom was born in 1967, the youngest of a family that has not really moved far in the last 180 years or so.  He has always been part of the Tottenham community and Colgan Parish.  His background is Irish Catholic and he thinks this is essential to defining who he is and for what he strives.

He was educated at St. James, Colgan, for elementary school and then attended Sacred Heart High School in Newmarket from where he graduated with honours.   After this, he pursued his Bachelor of Science in Theoretical Physics from the University of Guelph.  His next step was to take a year off to work on the family dairy farm and supply teach for local schools.  Following this, he completed a Masters Degree in Atmospheric Physics at the University of Saskatchewan.  It was here that he formally met the Basilian Fathers and started studying philosophy and theology on the side.  During this period out west, when he lived at St. Thomas More College, Saskatoon, he started helping with chaplaincy at the campus level.

From the prairies he moved back to Ontario to formally help with chaplaincy at Western University.  While living with the Basilian Fathers in London, he completed his Bachelor of Education degree.  After this graduation, Tom moved to San Lorenzo, Mexico, for one year (part of the formation with the Basilian Fathers).  That year involved living in community and he would like to say “helping the poor” but he thinks he learned more wisdom and acts of sincere charity than he ever gave back.  It was during his time there that he decided to move back to Tottenham and hopefully become part of the community.

He returns to his point of being Irish Catholic and how he felt it assisted him.  His parents instilled in him that a strong sense of service to others is important.  He also had many wonderful role models to learn about compassion and quiet leadership.  He believes that his faith environment helped challenge him to question society and our role in the community.

He has two boys, Vincent and Nicholas, ages nine and ten.  They keep Tom humble and in good shape.  As a single dad, Tom is learning the importance of routine and structure, which has inadvertently helped him become a better teacher.

Teaching for Tom involves a healthy amount of extracurricular activity (cross-country, science help nights, ball hockey, and cross-country).  One of his goals is to start up an intramural league to help those students who feel intimidated by organized sports. 

Finally, as a teacher, he is still improving in an osmosis-like style.  His teachers are his students, his children, and his mistakes.  He has become more open to appreciating different styles of learning, recognizing the variety of effective teaching methods, and most importantly, realizing that every student has the capacity to learn and his job is to take that responsibility with the greatest humility possible.

Colleen lives in Tottenham, is married and has three children.

Colleen is a lawyer and practices law at Feehely Gastaldi. She primarily practices general litigation, employment law and municipal law.

Colleen is a Board Member of Canadian Alopecia Areata Foundation (CANAAF) and holds the position of President.She is also a Board Member for the Stevenson Memorial Hospital and is the Chair of the Governance and Nominating Committee.

Colleen is a member of the Advocates Society and the Ontario Bar Association.

Mary Munnoch, President

Mary Munnoch has held the position of Teacher, Consultant, Psychometrician, and Superintendent of Education for Special Education, President of the Council for Exceptional Children and Ontario Governor of Council of Exceptional Children.

Unique projects included implementation of “Bill 82 for Developmentally Challenged" (now educational law) in elementary and secondary schools, integration of “challenged students” into normalized settings, and design of “modified curriculum” for schools.

Mary’s goals as a Board member are to work within the structure of CLASS and to serve in any capacity that will enable one and all to provide the necessary services for our most special group of people.

Alan Dresser, Treasurer

Alan lives in Tottenham, Ontario, where he owned two pharmacies since 1992. Originally from Windsor, Ontario, Alan was a high school science teacher for 10 years and a pharmacist for 30 years. A biochemistry degree from the University of Windsor, an education degree from the Queens University at Kingston, and a pharmacy degree from the University of Saskatchewan were capped in 2008 by an MBA with specialization in Health Industries Management, Strategy and Governance and Organizational Behaviour from the Shulich School of Business at York University.

He has coached high school and university football, high school basketball, and officiated basketball at the national level and baseball at the international and major league level.

In the past, Alan served on the finance committee of the Ontario Pharmacists’ Association and on the Board of Directors for Pharmasave Ontario. Previously Chair of the Quality and Governance & Nominations Committees he is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Stevenson Memorial Hospital.

Having owned and operated two successful community pharmacies for 18 and 15 years, Alan sold them in 2010 and enjoys semi-retirement in Tottenham with his wife of 32 years, Aileen.

John has occupied the position of Secretary for the past thirteen years. He has enjoyed being a member of the Board of Directors at CLASS and wishes to carry on.

John is a retired teacher with 34 years of experience. In the past, he taught Special Education students and had a keen interest in their development. His step-daughter is developmentally challenged and lives in a group home in Barrie, which is how he became involved with CLASS.

John brings many interesting and worthwhile qualities to the Board of Directors as well as a significant commitment to the Board of CLASS.

I have been a resident of Tottenham for the past 41 plus years. I'm very happily married with 2 sons and an amazing little granddaughter, Abigail. My youngest son Brett lives and works in barrie as a news anchor on a local radio station. My oldest son Christian lives at home with my husband Mike & myself. I am currently employeed as Office Manager for a large U.S. based trucking company operating out of Milton. My responsibilities include contractor payroll, recruitment, safety & compliance, plating and of course any administrative duties required.

Christian and I were introduced to CLASS when he was almost 4 years old when he started at the nursery program. We received such tremendous help, guidance and support from teh amazing staff there and I have always felt that without their guidance and support, Chris nor I would be who we are today. I think CLASS is such a vital organization within our community and I truly hope that everyone who comes in contact with CLASS gets the same help and guidance that we did.

Ron is married with three daughters; one of who is developmentally delayed and has received services from CLASS. He and his family have lived in New Tecumseth since 1973.

Ron is a graduate of Newmarket High School and the Ontario College of Art in Industrial Design. He is the former president and founder of Parsons ADL Inc., manufacturer and distributor of assistive devices for the handicapped and infirm elderly.

Ron is Past Chairman of the Board of Camp Hill Village Ontario, a lifestyle community for developmentally delayed adults. He is a member of their Quality Assurance Committee.

Ron was a member of CLASS’ Service Delivery Committee for two years and served as chair of that committee for one year. Ron has been a Board member of CLASS since 1994 and has been a member of the Nominations Committee for many years.

Mary-Lou lives just outside of Loretto, is married and has two boys. Her younger son, Bryan lives with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and developmental delay, and has been a client of CLASS since pre-school.

After Bryan's diagnosis, Mary-Lou left a busy, creative advertising career to stay home and care for her sons. Since then, she has worked for many years as a supply teacher, Special Education teacher, and Educational Assistant; all on a part-time basis. Her years of specialist appointments and therapies with her son, extensive research, and experience working with young people with different exceptionalities has made her a determined advocate for those who cannot do so for themselves.

Because she's an immigrant, Mary-Lou has completed some early education in The Netherlands. Settling in Colgan in 1973, she attended St. James School, Banting Memorial High School, York University, and the New York Institute of Art and Design. She now pursues a part-time career as an Interior Designer, working mostly with local builders.

Bryan started receiving services from CLASS as a young pre-schooler, after it became apparent that intervention was needed during pre-school. We had a Children's Services Worker that facilitated in the classroom, and also came to the house to provide structured play/therapy. During the school years, Bryan's involvement with CLASS was much less, mostly receiving programs for summer camp activities and the occasional March Break camp. Since turning 18, Bryan has once again become more of a client of CLASS. He now participates in the Passages Pay-for-Service program three days a week in Alliston. He loves the activities and is very enthusiastic to be in the company of his new friends and facilitators.

Kirsten Buligan began her policing career 17 years ago with the Toronto Police Service. During this time she was posted to 31 Division which is commonly referred to as "Jane and Finch". There she was a member of the Criminal Investigations Bureau, Youth Crime Bureau and Community Response Unit. As a result of working with these various units she gained extensive experience in working with diverse communities. As a member of the community response unit she became involved in numerous activities which were proactive in assisting at risk youths. This included a variety of mentoring and team building initiatives which focused on strengthening police relations with the community and preventing recidivism.

Upon joining the Ontario Provincial Police in 2008 she drew from her experiences in Toronto and quickly developed a strong working knowledge of the community with a focus on at risk youth and high risk offenders. During her time with the Nottawasaga OPP she has been a member of the Youth Crime unit, Crime Unit and is currently the Detachment Mental Health Coordinator. As the Mental Health Coordinator she works to ensure the Nottawasaga OPP’s response to mental health is consistent and efficient, mitigating risk and victimization by improving outcomes for the people in our communities. By using a collaborative service–delivery approach with the aim to connect individuals more effectively with the service and support they need. Due to this position she is involved in numerous work groups which strive to find solution to aid persons with mental health issues who become involved with the police or criminal justice system.

Dr. Myatt is a Physician in Alliston and is a member of the Alliston Family Health Team where he maintains his family practice and is Chair of the Quality Improvement Committee. Dr. Myatt is also an active member of Staff at Stevenson Memorial Hospital where he practices Emergency Medicine.He has taken a significant role in Physician Leadership at the hospital as the Chief of the Emergency Department and as an executive in the Professional Staff Association. Dr Myatt continues to contribute academically as a medical student and resident supervisor through the Rural Ontario Medical Program.

Dr. Myatt received his Undergraduate degree, Honours Bachelor of Science -Specialist in Human Biology, from University of Toronto in 2002. He went on to complete a Masters Degree in Public Health at St. Georges University School of Public Health and Preventative Medicine in 2004. Dr. Myatt Graduated and received his Medical Degree from St. Georges University School of Medicine in 2008 and the competed his Residency in Family Medicine at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in 2011.

Dr. Myatt and his Wife of 13 years, Nicole, choose Alliston in 2011 as the community where they wanted to make their home and raise their children. Those living with developmental disorders and disabilities are near and dear to their heart as they have 3 young children, 2 of whom have autism spectrum disorder.

Dr. Myatt looks forward to joining the board and drawing on his personal and professional experiences to assist the members of CLASS.
